Quick answer. Shared-service engineering lab instruments are specified by range and by what comes in the box, not by model name. ME-0001 to ME-0035 covers sieves and shakers, vacuum pumps, melting point and friability apparatus, turbidity and salinity meters, microbiology jars and water and soil kits: the instruments a department buys once and uses across several labs. This listing gives model names rather than performance figures, so on every line ask for the measuring range or aperture set, and whether calibration standards, certificates and consumables are included. Note also that the same instruments appear again elsewhere in the catalogue under MP codes.
This listing holds 34 shared-service laboratory instruments under codes ME-0001 to ME-0035, across four pages. These are the instruments an engineering department buys once and uses across several labs rather than for one experiment: sieves and sieve shakers for aggregate and soil grading, vacuum pumps that serve filtration rigs, melting point and friability apparatus, turbidity and salinity meters for water work, microbiology jars and colony counters, and digital water and soil analysis kits.
Worth knowing before you order. This range is also listed in the educational catalogue as Miscellaneous Products, where the same instruments carry MP codes instead of ME codes. ME-0001 and MP-0001 are both Test Sieves; the correspondence continues through the range. Quote the full item name with whichever code you are reading, so the enquiry is unambiguous. Note also that a third listing, Miscellaneous Products (Contd.), reuses MP-0001 onwards for polarimeters and micropipettes, which are different products again.

Codes are quoted above only where the item page confirms them. Where a group is given without codes, the items are in the range but the code should be read from the item page, because the sequence is not continuous and skips at least one number.
| Decision | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Sieve aperture set | Test sieves are bought as a set of apertures, not as one item. Give the aperture series your method specifies, the frame diameter and the frame material. Confirm whether a lid and receiver are included, and whether the sieves come with a certificate of conformity, which an assessed grading test usually requires. |
| Sieve shaker: motorised or hand | ME-0003 is gyratory and motor driven, which gives the reproducible agitation and timed run that a published grading method calls for. ME-0004 is hand operated and suits occasional or teaching use. Ask the shaker's sieve capacity and whether it takes your frame diameter. |
| Vacuum pump duty | A diaphragm pump (ME-0034) is oil-free and the right choice for filtration and aspiration; a rotary pump reaches a deeper vacuum but needs oil changes. Ask for the ultimate vacuum and the free air displacement, and check that ME-0032 accessories fit the pump you are ordering. |
| Turbidity range | Ask for the measuring range in NTU and the light source. A meter chosen for drinking water will not necessarily cover a turbid effluent sample, and the reverse is also true. |
| Which water and soil parameters | The kits are described by parameter count rather than by parameter. Ask which parameters each kit covers and check them against what your course or project actually measures. |
| Calibration and standards | For the titrimeter, the meters and the analysers, ask whether calibration standards or reagents are supplied, what the recalibration interval is, and whether a calibration certificate is available. For a teaching lab the certificate is often optional; for project work it usually is not. |
| Supply and installation | Confirm supply voltage, frequency and plug type for your country, and whether installation and operator training are included. Ask what is in the price and what is extra, since several of these instruments need consumables to be usable on day one. |
| Specifications are confirmed in writing on the quotation | The listing gives model names rather than performance figures. Any range, resolution or accuracy figure quoted to you comes from the manufacturer; ask for its source and verify it before you rely on it. |

Give the full item name with its code, the range or aperture set you need and your supply voltage, for example Sieve Shaker, Gyratory Type (ME-0003) with your sieve frame diameter. Contact Ray Export for prices, specifications and lead times.
As a set of apertures. A grading test is a series of sieves worked in sequence, so one sieve on its own is rarely useful. When you enquire, give the aperture series your method specifies, the frame diameter and the frame material, and confirm whether a lid and a receiver are included, since a stack without them cannot be run cleanly. Ask also whether the sieves come with a certificate of conformity for the apertures: an assessed grading test usually requires one, and it is far easier to order with the sieves than to obtain afterwards.
ME-0003 is gyratory and motor driven, which gives the reproducible agitation and the timed run that a published grading method calls for. If your results are being reported or assessed, that is the one to specify, because a hand-shaken stack cannot be timed or repeated consistently between operators. ME-0004 is hand operated and suits occasional use or a teaching demonstration where reproducibility is not the point. Either way, ask the shaker's sieve capacity - how many sieves it takes in a stack - and confirm that it accepts the frame diameter you are ordering.
A diaphragm pump (ME-0034) is oil-free, which makes it the right choice for filtration and aspiration where oil mist would contaminate the work or the pump would be damaged by vapour. A rotary pump reaches a deeper vacuum but needs oil changes and more upkeep. Ask for two figures either way: the ultimate vacuum, which tells you how far down it pulls, and the free air displacement, which tells you how fast it gets there on a large vessel. Also check that the ME-0032 accessories you order actually fit the pump on your quotation.
Ask for the measuring range in NTU and the light source, because the range is what decides whether the meter suits your samples at all. A meter chosen for drinking water will not necessarily cover a turbid effluent sample, and a meter built for effluent may be too coarse at the low end for treated water. If your practicals cover both ends of that scale, say so when you enquire rather than buying one meter and discovering the limit later. The nephelometer and the digital salinity meter are separate instruments with their own codes and ranges.
Ask which parameters each kit actually covers, then check that list against what your course or project measures. A parameter count tells you nothing about whether the kit does the tests you need, and two kits with the same count can cover quite different sets. At the same time, ask whether reagents and calibration standards are supplied and what the recalibration interval is, since a kit without reagents cannot be used on the day it arrives. For project work, ask whether a calibration certificate is available - for teaching it is often optional, for reported results it usually is not.
Because this range is catalogued twice. The instruments here carry ME codes, and the same items appear in the educational catalogue as Miscellaneous Products with MP codes: ME-0001 and MP-0001 are both Test Sieves, and the correspondence continues through the range. Quote the full item name along with whichever code you are reading, so the enquiry cannot be matched to the wrong record or ordered twice. Note also that the ME sequence is not continuous and skips at least one number, and some groups on this page are described without codes, so read the code from the item page.

Specifications on this listing are confirmed in writing on the quotation. The page gives model names rather than performance figures, so any range, resolution or accuracy figure quoted to you should be traced to its source and checked before you rely on it; aperture sets, sieve capacities, ultimate vacuum, NTU ranges and kit parameters are not published here. Supply voltage, frequency and plug type, and whether installation and operator training are included, are also not stated and need confirming for the destination country. No price is quoted on this page, as prices are issued as dated written quotations. Two things to note about the listing itself: the code sequence is not continuous, with 34 items spread across ME-0001 to ME-0035 and at least one number skipped, and several groups are described without codes; and the same instruments are catalogued a second time as MP codes under Miscellaneous Products, which makes duplicate ordering easy if only the code is quoted.

With built-in silicon oil bath and stirrer. Adjustable heating and stirrer speed. Power: 230V 50Hz / 110V 60Hz(on request)
Melting Point Apparatus This apparatus is very useful in the determination of the melting point of any substance in small quantity up to 300 C. It consists of an aluminum block which accepts three capillary tubes and a mercury thermometer. The block is heated by two elements clamped to the sides. The built-in lamp provides uniform and shadowless illumination of sample tube which are viewed through the magnifying lens against either a dark or bright ground selected by rotating a knob to the rear of the apparatus. A built-in a rotary rheostat gives accurate adjustment of the rate of increase of temperature as melting point is approached. Both the heaters are kept ON in the LOW as well as the HIGH position of the toggle switch. Thus ensuring uniform heating from both sides of the block. A second toggle switch on the right side connects the lamp and power input to the apparatus. A sturdy metal enclosing the heating block and controls is powder coated with textured siemens grey finish.
A single knob on the front panel consolidates the mains On/off switch this gives a temperature range from ambient to 350ºC with an arbitrary scale of 0 to 10. A rapid heat switch allows the higher temperature to be obtained in a shorter time. A lamp provides uniform shadowless illumination of the sample tubes, which are viewed through a 25 mm diameter-magnifying lens. A white or dark background can be selected with a control at the rear of the apparatus.
This is a compressed instrument designed for accurate determinations of melting points of solid samples. The unit consists of a built-in magnetic stirrer, an electronic controller for adjusting the rate of heating of silicon oil bath an ON/OFF switch a pilot lamp magnifier a glare-free illuminated background a HIGH/LOW range selector switch and a digital temperature indicator. The outer body is made of 304-grade stainless steel. The silicon oil bath consists of a plain cylindrical container of Corning glass having capacity about 200 ml. It is having a Teflon cover with five holes. Three for holding the capillaries, one for the boiling point tube and one for the temperature sensor.
