Melting Point Apparatus This apparatus is very useful in the determination of the melting point of any substance in small quantity up to 300 C. It consists of an aluminum block which accepts three capillary tubes and a mercury thermometer. The block is heated by two elements clamped to the sides.The built-in lamp provides uniform and shadowless illumination of sample tube which are viewed through the magnifying lens against either a dark or bright ground selected by rotating a knob to the rear of the apparatus. A built-in a rotary rheostat gives accurate adjustment of the rate of increase of temperature as melting point is approached. Both the heaters are kept ON in the LOW as well as the HIGH position of the toggle switch. Thus ensuring uniform heating from both sides of the block. A second toggle switch on the right side connects the lamp and power input to the apparatus. A sturdy metal enclosing the heating block and controls is powder coated with textured siemens grey finish.
A single knob on the front panel consolidates the mains On/off switch this gives a temperature range from ambient to 350ºC with an arbitrary scale of 0 to 10. A rapid heat switch allows the higher temperature to be obtained in a shorter time. A lamp provides uniform shadowless illumination of the sample tubes, which are viewed through a 25 mm diameter-magnifying lens. A white or dark background can be selected with a control at the rear of the apparatus.
This is a compressed instrument designed for accurate determinations of melting points of solid samples. The unit consists of a built-in magnetic stirrer, an electronic controller for adjusting the rate of heating of silicon oil bath an ON/OFF switch a pilot lamp magnifier a glare-free illuminated background a HIGH/LOW range selector switch and a digital temperature indicator. The outer body is made of 304-grade stainless steel. The silicon oil bath consists of a plain cylindrical container of Corning glass having capacity about 200 ml. It is having a Teflon cover with five holes. Three for holding the capillaries, one for the boiling point tube and one for the temperature sensor.
