Joint size: the specification that decides compatibility

Most of this range is interchangeable ground glass: a tapered cone on one piece seats into a matching socket on another. Two pieces fit each other only if their joint designations match, and no adapter rescues a mismatch unless it is specifically a reduction or expansion adapter, which is exactly what LG-0001 and LG-0002 are for. Glass type and class

Ordering an assembly rather than pieces

The assemblies in this range, including the eight numbered reaction types and the organic chemistry types, are multi-piece sets rather than single items. Before ordering one, ask for the full component list and the joint sizes, whether clips, clamps and a stand are included, and whether the heating source is part of the quote or separate. A reaction assembly quoted without its heating mantle, its clamps or its stand is not a working set-up, and this is the most common gap in a glassware quotation. If the assembly includes a Dewar flask such as LG-0294, note that the listing describes it as supplied without a carrying case or stopper, so order those if you need them.

Practical points on a glassware order

• Order spares with the set. Glassware breaks. The pieces most often replaced are the ones that get clamped and heated, so order a spare of each at the same time; a single replacement shipped later usually costs more in freight than the item.
• Packing for export. Ask how the order will be packed and whether each piece is individually boxed. For an export consignment this matters more than the unit price.

How do I make sure the glassware fits together?

Borosilicate or neutral hard glass?

The class is a tolerance band, and Class A is the tighter one. LG-0479 is a Class B volumetric pipette, LG-0480 is listed as Class A with a works certificate, and LG-0481 is Class B with a safety bulb, which concerns handling rather than tolerance. PTFE plug or glass stopcock on a separating funnel?

The separating funnels, LG-0141 to LG-0150, are offered both ways. A PTFE plug needs no grease, does not seize, and will not contaminate the sample with grease; a ground glass stopcock needs greasing and can stick if left wet, so for student use the PTFE version is usually the more economical choice over its life. The graduated funnels, LG-0147 and LG-0148, help when phase volumes matter. If the funnel will sit on a reaction flask rather than be used by hand, order the ground joint version.
