Communication & RF Trainers Lab Equipment Manufacturer, Supplier and Exporter in India

Ray Export is a leading manufacturer and supplier of Communication & RF Trainers in India,

Quick answer. Before choosing boards, settle the instruments each experiment needs, because they are not part of the board. The fifty C-series trainers, C-0001 to C-0050, follow a communication syllabus in order: analogue modulation, sampling and pulse modulation, pulse code and digital modulation, then transmission lines, antennas and microwave. Almost every experiment is a measurement experiment, so the oscilloscope bandwidth, whether a spectrum analyser is needed, and the signal source decide whether a bench works. Ask for a complete working bench quoted for two or three named experiments, not a list of boards.

Fifty trainers are catalogued in the C series, C-0001 to C-0050 across five pages, and between them they cover a full communication engineering syllabus in sequence: analogue modulation, sampling and pulse modulation, digital modulation and coding, then transmission lines, antennas and propagation. Read it as that progression rather than as a list, because the boards are bought in the order the course teaches them.

The instruments these boards need, which are not in the price

This is the single most important thing to settle before ordering communication trainers. Almost every experiment here is a measurement experiment: the board generates and processes a signal, and the student learns by looking at that signal. So the board is only half the bench. Ask, for each code, which of the following the experiment requires, and whether any are built in:

  • An oscilloscope, and its bandwidth. This is the usual gap. An eye diagram, a QAM constellation or an MSK waveform needs a scope with enough bandwidth and, for several of these, two channels so the modulating and modulated signals can be compared. A 20 MHz scope will not show what a 16-QAM trainer is doing.
  • A spectrum analyser, for the AM and FM sideband experiments and anything to do with bandwidth. Without one, a modulation experiment is reduced to looking at a time-domain trace, which teaches half the lesson. Ask whether the trainers have a built-in spectrum display or assume an external analyser, because this is the most expensive instrument in a communication laboratory and it changes the budget entirely.
  • A function generator for the modulating signal, unless one is integral.
  • A frequency counter, and for the antenna and microwave work the SWR meter (C-0050) and the Gunn power supply (C-0049), which are themselves separate line items here.

Ask the supplier to quote a complete working bench for two or three named experiments rather than a list of boards. That comparison is where a communication laboratory budget is actually decided.

Individual boards or a modular system

Two codes are described as systems rather than single trainers: the modular digital communication series (C-0022) and the digital communication training system (C-0023), with an antenna trainer system (C-0046) alongside the individual antenna trainer (C-0044). A modular system shares one base unit and one set of instruments across many experiments, which costs less per experiment and takes less bench space, but it means one fault stops several practicals and only one group can work at a time. Individual boards cost more in total and duplicate the hardware, but a class can run the same experiment simultaneously and a failure takes out one board. Ask which modules each system comprises, what the base unit includes, and whether modules can be bought later and are still in production.

The antenna and microwave section needs space and planning

C-0043 to C-0050 are not bench experiments in the same sense as the rest. Before ordering them, settle:

  • Space and reflections. An antenna pattern measurement needs clear distance between transmit and receive antennas and a room without strong reflecting surfaces nearby. Ask the recommended separation and give your room dimensions, because a radiation pattern measured in a small reflective room will not resemble the textbook.
  • Which antennas are supplied. The antenna trainer system should come with a set, typically dipole, folded dipole, Yagi, loop and horn. Ask which, and whether the microstrip antenna (C-0047) is a separate item.
  • Whether the rotation is motorised and plotted. C-0045 is a motorised antenna unit. Ask whether the pattern is plotted automatically or read point by point, and whether software is included and on what platform.
  • Frequency and licensing. Ask the operating frequency and the radiated power, and confirm with your national spectrum authority that transmitting on it in a teaching laboratory requires no licence or that an exemption applies. This is the buyer's obligation, not the supplier's.
  • Gunn diode safety. For the Gunn-based microwave experiments, ask for the output power and the handling guidance, and brief students not to look into an open waveguide.

Also worth confirming

The experiment manual with expected waveforms and readings, for every board you buy; whether each board has its own supply or needs a base unit; the quantity per student group; socketed devices and a spares kit; and the supply voltage, frequency and plug type for your country. Every product name in this range ends with "For Communication Teaching Labs", which is a naming convention on this site rather than a specification. Any performance figure quoted is confirmed in writing on the quotation; ask for its basis.

Frequently asked questions

What oscilloscope do communication trainers need?

Enough bandwidth, and usually two channels; the page calls the scope the usual gap. An eye diagram, a QAM constellation or an MSK waveform needs a scope with adequate bandwidth, and for several of these two channels so the modulating and modulated signals can be compared. The page's example is that a 20 MHz scope will not show what the 16-QAM training system, C-0025, is doing. For each code you order, ask which instruments the experiment requires and whether any are built in.

Do we need a spectrum analyser for these trainers?

For the AM and FM sideband experiments and anything to do with bandwidth, yes, or a built-in spectrum display. Without one, a modulation experiment is reduced to looking at a time-domain trace, which teaches half the lesson. The page notes that the analyser is the most expensive instrument in a communication laboratory and changes the budget entirely, so ask whether each trainer assumes one. Also check the signal source, a frequency counter, and the SWR meter, C-0050, and Gunn power supply, C-0049, which are separate line items.

Should we buy a modular system or individual boards?

It depends on how your practicals run. C-0022 and C-0023 are described as systems, and C-0046 is an antenna trainer system alongside the individual antenna trainer, C-0044. A modular system shares one base unit and one set of instruments and takes less bench space, but one fault stops several practicals and only one group can work at a time. Individual boards duplicate the hardware, but a class can run the same experiment at once. Ask which modules each system comprises and whether modules are still in production.

What do we need to plan for the antenna section?

Space. C-0043 to C-0050 are not bench experiments in the same sense as the rest. An antenna pattern measurement needs clear distance between transmit and receive antennas and a room without strong reflecting surfaces, so give your room dimensions and ask the recommended separation. Ask which antennas come with the system, typically dipole, folded dipole, Yagi, loop and horn, and whether the microstrip antenna, C-0047, is separate. For the motorised unit, C-0045, ask whether the pattern is plotted automatically and what software is included.

Do the antenna and microwave trainers need a transmitting licence?

Ask us the operating frequency and the radiated power, then confirm with your national spectrum authority that transmitting on that frequency in a teaching laboratory needs no licence, or that an exemption applies. The page is clear that this is the buyer's obligation, not the supplier's. For the Gunn-based microwave experiments, ask also for the output power and the handling guidance, and brief students not to look into an open waveguide. Settle both points before the equipment is installed rather than after.

What else should a communication trainer quotation confirm?

The experiment manual with expected waveforms and readings for every board; whether each board has its own supply or needs a base unit; the quantity per student group; socketed devices and a spares kit; and the supply voltage, frequency and plug type for your country. Every product name in this range ends with For Communication Teaching Labs, which is a naming convention rather than a specification. If any performance figure is quoted for a trainer, ask for its basis before relying on it.

Key takeaways

  • Fifty trainers in syllabus order: C-0001 to C-0050 run from analogue modulation to antennas and microwave.
  • The board is half the bench: ask per code which oscilloscope, analyser, generator and counter the experiment needs.
  • Bandwidth and two channels: eye diagrams, QAM constellations and MSK waveforms need both.
  • Modular or individual: systems save bench space but one fault stops several practicals; boards let a whole class work at once.
  • Antennas need a room: give your room dimensions and ask the recommended separation before ordering C-0043 to C-0048.
  • Licensing is the buyer's job: confirm the operating frequency with your national spectrum authority.
